The year of Raffaello

There is a deep and intense bond between Umbria, the land where Bottega Tifernate was born and lives, and the great artists, a bond that is nourished by the landscapes, the beauty, the quiet and the great temperament and humanity of these people. A territory that gave birth to and fascinated great artists and painters. This red thread became visible again during the pandemic, when the whole world, connected to listen to the words of Pope Francis, was able to admire the large Resurrection Altarpiece (2.33 by 1.65 meters high) behind him. A work that has the strange privilege of being visible and invisible: located in the Pontiff's private library, it is witness to great meetings between the Popes and the most significant figures in history. It was created by Pietro Vannucci known as "il Perugino", and thus links this land to the great protagonist events of 2020 . It was commissioned by Bernardino di Giovanni da Orvieto, a member of an important Umbrian family for the altar of the family chapel of San Francesco al Prato in Perugia in 1499. Probably created by 1501, with Napoleonic thefts it ended up in Paris in 1797; it was then brought back to Italy in 1815 and destined for Rome, in the Vatican. A few years later, Raphael, who had already become even greater than his master, would also paint for San Francesco al Prato, a sort of "Pantheon of Perugia", two of the most important altarpieces, the Baglioni Deposition and the Coronation , for two of the families most prominent of the time.

The images of Perugino's work seen worldwide a few days after the 500th anniversary of the death of Raphael, "Prince" of the Italian Renaissance, brings to the fore the red thread that links this small region to the greatest exponents of Italian art; a bond that in these days becomes so complex, visible, strong and beautiful.
