Awarding of the honor to Monsignor Dario Viganò

On Tuesday 11 January, at Palazzo Borromeo in Rome, Ambassador Pietro Sebastiani awarded the recognition of Commander to Monsignor Dario Viganò. Italian priest, academic and writer, Viganò is the author of numerous books and articles dedicated to the relationship between cinema and the Catholic world. The actor and director Carlo Verdone spoke at the event. Also guests in Rome were Stefano and Francesca Lazzari, owners of Bottega Tifernate.

The relationship between Church and Cinema is at the center of the ceremony. The meeting opened with a moment of reflection in memory of the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli. The event was held in the Sala del Caminetto. This is the place where the cultural heritages of the past were ideally combined with contemporary languages. Cinema is also part of these.

In the motivation read by Ambassador Pietro Sebastiani for the awarding of the honor of Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy to Monsignor Dario Viganò, his very high cultural profile and relevant ecclesiastical and academic positions are cited. All this makes him one of the points of reference in the Italian cultural panorama. His academic qualifications, positions in research institutes and teaching activities, as well as numerous awards and recognitions, certainly bear witness to his prestige on a communicative and cultural level.

The awarding of the Star of Italy is the opportunity to put together everything that God has given me the opportunity to experience up to now, explains Monsignor Viganò. Thanks - he underlines - goes above all to Pope Francis. The Supreme Pontiff has expressed his closeness to him in several ways in addition to his interest in cinema. Monsignor Dario Viganò also gave the ambassador a commemorative watermark which shows the Trivulziano codex from the end of the 14th century. The latter belongs to the introduction of the Canticle of Hell in Dante's Comedy. The work in question was created by Bottega Tifernate.

Also participating in the ceremony were the owners of Bottega Tifernate and above all their works. The Trivulziano codex 1080, donated by Monsignor Dario Viganò to the ambassador, is a volume copied by Francesco di Ser Nando da Barberino in 1337. This hands down one of the oldest texts of Dante's Comedy. Nowadays it is kept inside the Trivulziana Library in Milan. In addition to having created this precious gift, part of a limited edition, the owners of Bottega Tifernate had the opportunity to meet Carlo Verdone. The actor and director was given a reproduction of Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin by the Tiferno company.
