History
The painting depicts the Virgin Mary in a central position, often seated on a throne or a simple pedestal, with the Child Jesus in her arms. Mary is depicted with expressions of gentleness and humility, highlighting the virtues that characterise her. Her dress is usually decorated with elegant motifs, while the Child may be depicted in childlike poses, symbolising innocence and divinity. The use of bright colours and gilding typical of the Gothic period contributes to giving a sense of luminosity and spirituality to the work. The ‘Madonna of Humility’ is not only a work of art, but also an important expression of faith and spiritual values. Our Lady's humility becomes a model for the faithful, emphasising the importance of devotion and piety in the Christian life.
