History
A female figure with an unnatural posture turning her gaze toward the narrative of the frieze, the woman's hairstyle, clothing, and face immediately refer to the Egyptian world and the figurative style of that distant world. Although the woman's face is characterized by strong realism, it contrasts with the abstractionism of the body characterized by the two-dimensionality of the clothing; so that there is no difference between the foreground with the main actors and the background of the mosaic. The Waiting is wrapped in a triangular-shaped robe that makes nothing perceptible of the anatomy of the female body it conceals; the dress is composed of large triangles decorated on the inside, a series of geometric lines that reflect and refer to the almost glacial rigidity of the figure.
