History
The Embrace represents two lovers holding each other in a passionate embrace full of feeling, the moment when the couple unites after the Waiting. In the background the branches of the Tree of Life with their spirals envelop the scene pervading the viewer. The only face that emerges from the embrace is that of the woman who seems to surrender to the man's shoulder. Their robes and their surroundings are garish with gold, pieces of pageantry that fit together to perfection in virtuoso interplays of geometric figures. The work, which is closely reminiscent of the celebrated Kiss, is grounded in geometric abstraction and heated decorativism. The robes of the two protagonists are garish with gold, pieces of pageantry that fit together to perfection in virtuoso games of geometric figures. Wide tunics decorated with brown, black and white hues, a few red, green and yellow inserts then enliven the fabric. The background is entirely done with gold leaf.
